It inherits the mission of the former BSC by undertaking activities that enable it to play a central role in the biometrics industry. It maintains the basic stance of the former BSC that has been to tackle common industry challenges: biometrics technology and related social systems and problems facing users of biometrics technologies. It works to create a market environment in which it is possible to promote the wide introduction of biometrics technologies, and offers proposals for international standardization activities in close cooperation with concerned standards organizations.


It carries out the following projects.

1. Surveying and studying basic technologies that are common matters regarding biometrics technologies and public infrastructure
   
Its contents include interconnectivity, performance evaluations, quality assurance, social environment and infrastructure information etc. and conformity assessment of rules that have been standardized.
   
2. When building a system that will apply biometrics technology, clarifying guidelines and surveying and studying operating specifications (profile) that should be standardized for safe operation
   
This includes the study of fragility, template protection, safety of biometric systems, and roles etc. of biometrics vendor corporations etc. in ensuring the safety of using biometrics.
   
3. Environment creation and PR activities for the healthy development of the biometrics market
   
Its contents include establishing accountability to users concerning privacy and activities enabling industry and users to cooperatively deal with problems such as fragility.
